Supporting our members is a core part of our mission. Through capacity-building workshops, skills training, and leadership development, we empower individuals to grow personally and professionally. We foster networking and community-building opportunities that strengthen connections and create a supportive environment for Africans and African descendants in St. Albert.
Supporting our Members
Our programs also include advocacy and representation efforts to ensure our members’ voices and needs are heard, along with resource sharing, financial and fundraising support, and recognition initiatives that celebrate achievements and motivate continued engagement. Through ongoing communication and social support, we work to ensure every member feels valued, connected, and equipped to thrive within our community.

This youth mentorship and community-building program, launched in October 2019, supports students in Grades K–6 during the spring and Grades 7–12 during the fall.
The program brings in professionals and community leaders to speak on age-appropriate, relevant topics, while also creating opportunities for children and youth to connect with one another, learn from their peers, and build confidence in a safe and supportive environment.
By fostering a strong sense of belonging, the initiative helps young people feel seen, supported, and empowered. It also strengthens family connections and community ties, reinforcing the idea that when a community works together, children and youth are more likely to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our Women’s Event (May) and Men’s Event (June) are important spaces dedicated to health, connection, and community building. The initiative began in 2020 as a combined health-focused discussion during the COVID era and later evolved in response to community feedback requesting separate, gender-specific gatherings.
By hosting separate events, women and men are able to speak more openly about issues and challenges unique to their experiences. These spaces encourage meaningful conversations, foster new friendships, and strengthen connections, helping participants feel a deeper sense of belonging and support within the community.

Our Youth Summer Camp began in 2022 after receiving SBCCI funding to purchase equipment, along with support from T8N100Men to hire tutors. With space generously provided by St. Albert Further Education, the program offers low cost, barrier free, and culturally responsive summer camps for children.
The camp has continued successfully each year, providing a safe, supportive environment where children can learn, grow, and build confidence while staying connected to their culture and community.

Our tutoring services support families by providing access to qualified tutors in subjects where parents may not feel confident offering help themselves. The program also helps reduce the financial burden of academic support, making quality learning assistance more accessible to children and youth.

Our Volunteer Appreciation and End-of-Year Event is held to recognize, celebrate, and thank the volunteers who make our programs and events possible. It provides an opportunity to acknowledge their time, dedication, and meaningful impact on our community.
The event also strengthens relationships, fosters a sense of belonging, and creates space to reflect on the year’s achievements while looking ahead together with gratitude and shared purpose.
